Grimsby, Ontario--May 20, 2010--This Tuesday, Don Treschak of Treschak Enterprises hosted a seminar on the upcoming deadline to stop using of solvent-based paint. The event was held in the pressroom of the Casablanca Winery Inn in Grimsby, Ontario. Around 20 facility owners and industry representatives attended the seminar. Coffee and freshly baked cookies were on hand for the attendees. The seminar began with a PowerPoint presentation by Environment Canada representatives Laura Hill and Guy Gagne on the history of the issue and some of the exemptions to the prohibition. The presentation was followed by a question and answer period. The presenters were inundated with questions about the limits and loopholes of the regulations. A number of attendees were concerned about discrepancies and seeming contradictions in the regulations, as well as how they will be enforced. After the question period, Gerry Grenier of AkzoNobel did a presentation about the technical issues repairers confront using waterborne paint. He addressed many common concerns about waterborne including mixing ratios as well as ideal heat and air considerations for inside the spray booths. Importing solvent paint will become illegal in Canada as of June 19 of this year. The sale of solvent paint will be completely banned on December 19, 2010.
